Dr. Cynthia Sofhauser received her PhD in nursing from the University of Texas Austin. Her Master’s degree in nursing is from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia where she focused on adult health and illness and was prepared as a Cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialist. She earned her BSN from Alderson-Broaddus University in Philippi, WV. Dr. Sofhauser’s clinical expertise is in the medical-surgical nursing care of adults with an emphasis on cardiovascular events and diseases. Dr. Sofhauser’s scholarly efforts deal with the psychosocial antecedents of heart disease and holistic interventions that change deep-seated attitudes and beliefs about the self and others. Additionally, she is focused on the theoretical foundations of the discipline of nursing and the applications of nursing’s theoretical frameworks to clinical nursing practice. Dr. Sofhauser developed a Minor in Complementary Health for all IU South Bend students and directs student work in the Minor. She holds certifications in advanced holistic nursing (AHN-BC) and nursing education (CNE).
